About the Role
The Whitney’s Community Programs and Partnerships department aims to build pathways for New Yorkers to engage with American art through partnerships and sustained connections. This internship offers a semester-long paid opportunity for rising Juniors and above to gain knowledge of educational programming at a cultural institution and inclusive programming practices.
Responsibilities
- Providing support for virtual/onsite programs and special events
- Assisting with virtual sessions, workshops, and courses for community partners and senior centers by preparing curriculum materials for freelance educators
- Researching artists in the Whitney’s collection and current exhibitions
- Assisting freelance educators offsite at community partnerships
- Administrative support and maintenance of community programs spaces
- Completion of a final intern project connected to community programs and partnerships
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a degree in education, museum studies, disability studies, studio art, art history, or a related field
- Undergraduates and graduates currently enrolled in accredited academic year programs are eligible
- Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year’s worth of academic coursework; undergraduate freshmen are not eligible
- While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students in all majors are encouraged to apply
- Previous museum experience is not required
Skills
- Passionate about and have some knowledge of contemporary art and social movements (i.e. immigrant justice, racial justice, LGBTQ justice, disability justice)
- Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or ASL a plus
- Microsoft Office Suite
