About the Role
Sherwood is seeking a Design Engineer III - Water/Wastewater to support our growing civil and environmental engineering firm. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineering disciplines to co-create solutions for infrastructure challenges, demonstrating expertise in water, wastewater, and water reuse infrastructure design.
Responsibilities
- Develop high quality, cutting edge sustainable engineering solutions for clients, including process evaluation, facilities planning, engineering design, permitting & compliance, construction administration, and operations planning.
- Prepare calculations, design criteria, and technical memorandums.
- Work across teams and engage subconsultants to develop integrated design solutions.
- Implement quality assurance and quality control through all project phases.
- Contribute to staff development through training and mentoring.
- Create and implement innovative design techniques to enhance company productivity.
- Ensure engineering designs comply with current applicable state & local regulations.
- Develop water and wastewater infrastructure solutions and prepare plan set packages across all project phases.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and clients.
- Produce water/wastewater treatment plant designs in AutoCAD.
- Utilize water/wastewater process modeling and simulation software.
- Engage in operation of treatment plants and/or pilot studies, monitoring, sampling, measurements, analysis, and reporting.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in civil and/or environmental engineering industry.
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
- Strong water/wastewater technical background, including in-depth experience with water and wastewater treatment processes.
- Experience developing water and wastewater infrastructure solutions and developing plan set packages across all project phases including conceptual design, detailed design, and construction administration.
- Experience preparing technical reports, documentation, and presentations for stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and clients.
- Proficient in producing water/wastewater treatment plant designs in AutoCAD.
- Experience with water/wastewater process modeling and simulation software (e.g., BioWin, GPS-X).
- Experience with operation of treatment plants and/or pilot studies, monitoring, sampling, measurements, analysis and reporting.
- Experience in a consulting environment.
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, mechanical, electrical) to integrate design solutions.
- Experience with advanced water treatment technologies (e.g. membrane filtration, UV disinfection).
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and automated controls for water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Knowledge of water, wastewater, and water reuse regulations and permitting processes in California and the United States.
- Knowledge and exposure to civil and hydraulic design programs (Civil 3D, PCSWMM, SewerCAD, ArcGIS, etc.).
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certified or Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Certifications or other sustainability-oriented accreditation preferred (iLEED , Envision, Living Building Challenge, EcoDistricts).
