About the Role
Glenmont Job Corps Center is seeking a compassionate, organized, and dependable Counselor to mentor young adults, help them work through challenges, and encourage them to reach their goals. This role involves guiding students through their Job Corps journey, helping them set goals, addressing challenges, tracking progress, and supporting them through program completion.
Responsibilities
- Build supportive, professional mentoring relationships with students.
- Help students identify goals and develop plans for education, career, and personal development.
- Provide personal and career counseling to address challenges affecting education or employment.
- Track student progress in academics, career training, and overall Job Corps experience.
- Manage a student caseload, maintaining accurate notes, documentation, and individualized plans.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external community resources to support students.
- Identify and help remove barriers to student success.
- Provide guidance, accountability, and encouragement during difficult moments.
- Support student retention and completion of the program.
- Assist with student transportation for approved appointments and services.
- Serve as Acting Counseling/CPP Manager when the manager is unavailable, providing guidance and support.
- Create an environment where students feel safe, respected, welcomed, and encouraged.
- Treat students with care, dignity, and respect.
- Set clear expectations and encourage accountability.
- Help students develop positive behaviors and professional habits.
- Respond appropriately when students are struggling.
- Celebrate student progress and accomplishments.
- Model communication and professionalism.
- Maintain confidential student records.
- Document student progress.
- Update student career development plans.
- Complete required case notes and assessments.
- Monitor assigned caseload.
- Meet established deadlines.
- Maintain accurate student information.
- Protect sensitive and confidential information.
- Follow Job Corps and Department of Labor requirements.
- Collaborate with staff from various departments to ensure students receive necessary support.
- Facilitate team discussions to address student challenges and needs.
Requirements
- A valid in-state driver's license is REQUIRED.
- Must possess a valid in-State Drivers License and meet Company insurability requirements.
- Bachelors degree (including at least 15 semester hours in Social Services-related instruction) from an accredited school REQUIRED.
- A minimum of one-year experience in counseling or related field.
- Prefer previous Job Corps or related program experience.
