About the Role
The Music Therapist is responsible for all aspects of client recreational activities that relate to music and musical instruments.
Responsibilities
- Provide supervised, highly structured music-related indoor recreational activities to residents.
- Plan and prepare lessons in relation to resident needs.
- Acquire appropriate teaching materials and resources.
- Teach music theory, aural skills, and practical techniques to residents.
- Motivate residents and encourage progress.
- Maintain communication with program management by assessing pupils’ abilities, providing feedback, and providing required documentation.
- Maintain and secure all music equipment.
- Interact with staff, clients, students, and visitors courteously, professionally, and respectfully, consistent with the agency’s mission and values.
- Produce accurate, neat, and thorough work.
- Prioritize and plan work time efficiently, managing competing demands and dealing with changes, delays, and unexpected events.
- Understand and consistently comply with agency policy and procedures.
- Support a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that allows for positive interactions with clients, students, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in role and function when circumstances warrant.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries, ethics, and professionalism, complying with agency, OASAS, and other professional codes of ethics, and seeking supervision when challenges arise.
Requirements
- Experience in planning and facilitating physical education, exercise, and/or other recreational activity.
