Represent clients in courtroom hearings and argue cases before the New York State Workers' Compensation Board. We seek proactive problem solvers comfortable in court, able to think on their feet, and possessing strong communication and organizational abilities.
Responsibilities
- Represent clients in courtroom hearings
- Argue cases before the New York State Workers' Compensation Board
- Review calendar and prepare for scheduled hearings or depositions
- Appear before the New York State Workers' Compensation Board
- Strategize for upcoming mediations
- Draft motions
- Review medical records
- Analyze employment documentation to build case strategy
- Update clients on case developments
- Offer strategic advice to clients
- Consult with colleagues on complex claims
- Discuss legal updates and procedural best practices
- Manage caseload independently
- Meet filing deadlines
- Participate in negotiations
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice in New York and in good standing with the state bar
- Familiarity with NYS Workers' Compensation Law and regulations
- Experience with appearances at WCB hearings
- Experience conducting medical depositions
- Experience drafting Workers' Compensation appeals
- Experience drafting Section 32 Agreements
- Experience with third-party liens
- Experience with Medicare compliance
- Proven ability to manage a caseload independently, while meeting deadlines and court requirements
- Excellent communication skills for maintaining ongoing client relationships and providing strategic legal advice
- A professional demeanor, ethical judgment, and a strong commitment to client service and results-driven representation
