About the Role

Altana is seeking a Vertical Technology Lead, Policy & National Security to own end-to-end technical outcomes for the vertical. This UK-based leadership role operates in the national security context, working with classified missions and secured environments, in close partnership with Platform Operations and core Engineering, Product & Design (EPD). The position requires holding the architecture bar, winning technical arguments, and driving product development for mission-critical needs.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical approach across the vertical's capture efforts, providing technical volumes, proposal content, and supporting materials.
  • Partner with the Head of Vertical to ensure product delivery meets decision-maker and end-user needs, bringing technical credibility to pitches.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key technology partners in the UK and allied national security ecosystem.
  • Advise commercial leadership on product-market fit and the feasibility of proposed solution architectures.
  • Translate vertical needs into clear, cross-cutting product features and requests.
  • Own the technical architecture and delivery for the vertical's accounts, from scoping through deployment (PaaS and SaaS).
  • Maintain the quality bar for performance, security, and maintainability, and lead compliant operations.
  • Direct Implementation Delivery Managers (IDMs) on large and strategic accounts.
  • Staff accounts based on complexity and assign strongest personnel to high-stakes accounts.
  • Collaborate with EPD and core engineering to build solution designs, configuring existing capabilities or developing new ones.
  • Drive last-mile product development for mission-specific requirements.
  • Own the vertical's customer support obligations and build processes for the field-to-product feedback loop.
  • Ensure vertical deployments meet Altana's security, risk, and compliance obligations in secured and regulated environments.
  • Partner with Platform Operations on regulated-environment engineering and accreditation.
  • Own hiring, staffing, and deployment for the vertical's technical delivery team.
  • Allocate resources across the vertical's accounts, concentrating technical talent effectively.
  • Flag resource or product investment gaps relative to opportunity.
  • Develop team members through a 'capture-ground' model, offering increased responsibility based on delivery.
  • Support individual career paths, whether technical mastery, account running, or management.
  • Hold the technical quality bar, manage performance, and model technical product excellence.
  • Foster team culture and uphold operating rhythm and communication standards, including meeting contractual obligations.

Requirements

  • Delivered at the sharp end of the public sector, leading complex technical programs for government (ideally defence, intelligence, or national security).
  • Comfortable engaging with mission owners and senior decision-makers, translating between mission and technical language.
  • Experience as an architect who has also run delivery.
  • Ability to own a solution architecture across SaaS and regulated environments.
  • Experience building team structures to manage delivery-management overhead and keep engineers productive.
  • Experience building teams and upgrading them as missions grow, staffing to complexity, and assigning the right people to accounts.
  • Proven ability to win on technical capability and translate technical credibility into expansion.
  • Experience surfacing where the platform can unlock new mission value and partnering with commercial teams to convert it.
  • Experience operating in secured environments, handling sensitive and classified data.
  • Understanding of delivering software within accredited, controlled environments.
  • Ability to lead through inspiration, set a high bar, grow team members, and guide teams through complex, ambiguous problems.
