About the Role

BTG Pactual is seeking a U.S. Tax Operations & Compliance Associate Director to own the operational tax framework for client tax documentation, withholding configuration, and information reporting for U.S. and non-U.S. clients.

Responsibilities

  • Define withholding rules for various products and client segments, including interest, dividends, substitute payments, partnership distributions, gross proceeds, FIRPTA, OID, and payments to intermediaries.
  • Support IT in configuring and maintaining withholding parameters in core, custody, and payments platforms.
  • Own the change-control process for withholding logic, including business requirements, testing, and documentation.
  • Reconcile amounts withheld to amounts deposited and manage under- and over-withholding remediation.
  • Review and validate Forms W-9 and W-8 series, including withholding statements and allocation schedules.
  • Determine Chapter 4 status and apply look-through to controlling persons.
  • Perform U.S. indicia searches and CRS residency determinations, manage curing of indicia, and monitor documentation validity.
  • Assess treaty claims and apply reduced treaty rates.
  • Review the preparation and filing of various tax forms including 1099 series, 1042, 1042-S, 8966, CRS returns, 945, and state reporting.
  • Manage the annual reporting calendar, recipient statement delivery, corrections, extensions, TIN matching, and notice processes.
  • Oversee outsourced/vendor reporting providers and validate their output.
  • Support U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance, including partnership compliance and multi-state filings.
  • Strengthen internal controls, risk assessments, procedure documentation, and audit readiness.
  • Drive process improvement and tax technology adoption.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external advisors.

  • Demonstrated, hands-on expertise in U.S. withholding and information reporting.
  • Proven ability to validate W-8 and W-9 documentation and translate into system withholding parameters.
  • Working knowledge of FATCA and CRS.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
