About the Role

The Facilities Technician II - Day Hab provides comprehensive repair and maintenance services to HeartShare Day Habilitation facilities, ensuring that both the interior and exterior are safe, clean, and well-maintained. Candidates must possess a strong understanding of building systems and equipment and have a proven track record of independently diagnosing and repairing issues.

Responsibilities

  • Performing maintenance and repairs such as drywall, quality painting, basic plumbing, basic electrical work, plaster and masonry, lock installation/repair, and operation of equipment.
  • Completing all repair and maintenance tasks independently, with minimal guidance.
  • Completing all repairs and maintenance in a professional manner, ensuring high-quality, durable, and safe results.
  • Proper security and upkeep of HeartShare assets, including vehicles, phones, tools, supplies, and materials.
  • Reporting any dangerous conditions to the Assistant Director of Facilities Day Hab.
  • Primary responsibility for the safekeeping, recordkeeping, and reconciliation of agency petty cash.
  • Custody and management of agency vehicles and other critical assets such as tools.
  • Purchasing materials for assigned work orders from hardware store vendors.
  • Participating in in-service trainings and on-site workshops.
  • Attending external trainings and workshops.
  • Executing daily assigned work orders as prioritized.
  • Working within a team or as an individual on job sites, taking the lead on assigned work orders, purchasing materials, and planning execution of the scope of work.
  • Meeting contractors and vendors onsite to ensure work completion.
  • Providing first-line 24-hour response to emergency repairs at all day habilitation physical plant locations.
  • Coordinating facility-related emergencies.
  • Working closely with relevant teams and authorities.
  • Maintaining cell phone contact on evenings and weekends for emergency response.
  • Reporting to work during emergencies, including snow removal and urgent day habilitation facility situations.
  • Ensuring physical plant safety protocols.
  • Following all Blood-borne Pathogen Control standards.
  • Utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Participating in all Professional Development Trainings.
  • Obtaining OSHA 10-hour within 6 months and OSHA-approved PPE training within 3 months.
  • Maintaining and repairing day habilitation interiors, ensuring hazard prevention and compliance with applicable regulations and codes.
  • Maintaining and repairing day habilitation exteriors and grounds, ensuring hazard prevention and well-kept appearance.
  • Recommending proactive preventative maintenance issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Reporting issues in the upkeep of equipment, systems, and structures.
  • Serving as the agency’s Day Hab Vehicle Custodian.
  • Ensuring that parking tickets received on agency vehicles are submitted for prompt payment.
  • Maintaining Vehicle Logs.
  • Scheduling and coordinating vehicle maintenance/service needs.
  • Ensuring a copy of vehicle registration, insurance, and inspection documents are always in the vehicle.
  • Providing care and upkeep to assigned equipment vehicles.
  • Attending Driver Training classes, as required.
  • Staying informed and up-to-date on all agency vehicle-related policies.
  • Primary responsibility for care and upkeep of assigned tools.
  • Ensuring daily proper safe storage of tools and equipment.
  • Maintaining equipment and tool inventory.
  • Recording detailed completion notes and photos in TheWorxHub on the same day the work is performed.
  • Logging progress notes with a clear explanation of work performed and remaining steps if a task cannot be fully completed.
  • Utilizing the automated facilities management system (TheWorxHub) to manage all work requests, track maintenance tasks, and log preventative maintenance.
  • Communicating regularly with the Assistant Director of Facilities Day Hab, providing updates on assigned tasks and ongoing projects.
  • Maintaining clear communication with staff and external stakeholders regarding day habilitation facility matters.
  • Primary responsibility for purchasing supplies and materials for the department.
  • Procuring items from hardware stores, coordinating purchases with approved suppliers, and picking up orders from vendors.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and reconciliation of receipts and any petty cash used for these purchases.
  • Submitting receipts and purchase records in a timely manner for prompt reconciliation and replenishment.
  • Maintaining detailed accountability of all petty cash used, retaining dated, itemized receipts for every purchase.
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of maintenance experience with increasing responsibilities, ideally in a nonprofit or healthcare setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of Handyman Duties, basic plumbing, basic carpentry, basic electrical, building codes, knowledge of regulations, and safety standards for ADA, DEP, DOB, OPWDD, OFPC, etc.
  • Demonstrated skills, with a track record of successfully overseeing job sites and fostering a positive work culture.
  • Proficiency in utilizing automated facilities management systems, such as TheWorxHub, for work order tracking, preventive maintenance & asset management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Cost-effective solutions with high-quality outcomes.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach when interacting with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Strong administrative & record keeping skills, with sufficient math skills to manage petty cash.
