About the Role
The Director of Marketing will set the strategic vision for Blackbird's brand and oversee its execution across all marketing disciplines and channels, including brand, communications, and consumer growth. This role involves defining how Blackbird presents itself to the world and ensuring consistency across all customer and partner touchpoints. The position requires translating strategy into execution for brand campaigns, public relations, and acquisition, with a focus on building upon existing brand foundations and directing future growth.
Responsibilities
- Own the Blackbird brand voice and identity across all consumer channels.
- Develop culturally credible campaigns, including copy, visual, and experiential elements.
- Build Blackbird's presence in key cities and dining communities.
- Partner with the Restaurants team to ensure brand work supports both sides of the network.
- Own Blackbird's external narrative, including press, media relationships, and executive visibility.
- Build and execute a proactive PR strategy to maintain Blackbird's presence in dining, tech, and culture conversations.
- Manage relationships with PR agencies, freelance writers, and media contacts.
- Prepare messaging and talking points for press moments, partnership announcements, and crisis response.
- Partner with Partnerships and Restaurants teams on co-branded press moments and launch announcements.
- Drive diner acquisition through paid, owned, and earned channels.
- Set and achieve growth targets for app downloads, new user activation, and retention.
- Build a performance marketing capability that aligns with brand values.
- Collaborate with product teams on onboarding, in-app messaging, and user lifecycle.
- Lead and develop an in-house marketing team.
- Manage agency and contractor relationships.
- Oversee the marketing budget and report on performance.
- Generate reporting and utilize data to inform strategy.
Requirements
- 8+ years of marketing experience, with significant time in consumer-facing roles.
- 5+ years of leadership experience with a builder's mindset.
- Proven ability to build brands that foster affinity, not just awareness.
- Strong storytelling and communications skills, including experience building or managing a PR/earned-media strategy.
- Proficiency in performance marketing and driving acquisition at scale.
- Experience in a high-growth startup environment.
- A strong writing sensibility and ability to refine copy.
- Passion for restaurants, food culture, and hospitality.
