About the Role
The Teacher Assistant helps the Master Teacher in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities for preschool children, ensures their safety, and carries out Universal Pre-K Standards. This role assumes leadership in the classroom during the Master Teacher's absence and involves accurate recordkeeping. The Teacher Assistant reports to the Master Teacher and the Pre-k Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Helps the Master Teacher in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities for preschool children.
- Ensures the safety of the children.
- Carries out the Universal Pre-K Standards.
- Assumes the lead role in the classroom during the absence of the Master Teacher.
- Keeps accurate recordkeeping.
Requirements
- Experience working in a licensed or registered early childhood setting required.
- Physical requirements include standing, sitting, walking, bending or kneeling to child's eye level, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and visual skills required.
- Auditory and verbal skills required for communication with clients, staff and the public.
- Employment is conditional pending satisfactory medical exam and TB test.
- Employment is conditional pending fingerprint clearance from the NYS Education Department at the time of hire.
- Employee will be required to sign an affidavit annually which states that he/she has not been indicated in a child abuse or neglect case within the past year.
- Must be able to work in a Substance-Free workplace.
- Must be able to pass drug testing (random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion).

- Knowledge of child development.
- Ability to work with young children.
- Ability to observe and record behaviors of children.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of program and agency related information.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and cooperate with all Pre-K staff to provide quality programming for children and families.
- Ability to be non-judgmental in working with families.

Salary/Compensations
- Grade 3 - $18.99 per hour (CDA)
- Grade 4 - $19.46 per hour (Associate's Degree)
