About the Role
Contribute to the profitability of the Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) portfolio by ensuring compliance with RESL lending policies and procedures, protecting the Bank’s operational and reputational risk. Provide compliance-related operational support and act as the back-up Business Continuity Planning (BCP) contact.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee RESL governance and compliance policies, reports, and issues, including Customer Privacy, Know Your Customer, and AML/ATF.
- Contribute to the development and review of new or updated policies and procedures, considering regulatory changes.
- Design and recommend tactical compliance strategies across all delivery channels, ensuring operational and system changes adhere to regulatory requirements.
- Support the Senior Manager as the department's point of contact for external regulatory agencies (e.g., OSFI, FCAC, CBA).
- Investigate governance and compliance issues raised by regulatory bodies.
- Research and provide input on proposed legislation affecting RESL for management review and government submissions.
- Project manage the implementation of compliance and regulatory changes from inception to post-review.
- Update documentation (e.g., disclosures) for established, new, or revised processes impacted by compliance or regulatory changes.
- Assist with the preparation and review of detailed external compliance reports for OSFI.
- Assist with compliance self-assessments and certifications as required by the Bank Act, Trust and Loan Companies Act, FCAC, OSFI, and Anti-Money Laundering legislation.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual internal compliance trends and issues reports for Senior Management RESL.
- Assist with the development and preparation of reports for Global Compliance and Senior Management.
- Provide input on agreements, new products, programs, and related documents to ensure appropriate disclosures and defined responsibilities.
- Perform continuous reviews and improvements of regulatory reporting procedures for efficiency and accuracy.
- Ensure the delivery of high-standard customer service consistent with Scotiabank's core values and Complaint Resolution Standards.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education with related work experience in financial services compliance and regulatory support.
- Knowledge of the Canadian residential market, industry trends, best practices, and regional market differences.
- Knowledge of RESL policies and procedures across all delivery channels and centralized processing units.
- Understanding of how RESL products and programs function, including pricing, underwriting, servicing, and accounting.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate issues and opportunities and synthesize information for policy, compliance, and regulatory recommendations.
- Proven ability to provide accurate and thorough recommendations with potentially far-reaching consequences.
- Ability to work independently and build strong relationships in a team environment.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports and business cases for senior audiences.
- Strong customer focus orientation to support internal and external customers.
- Adaptability to an ever-evolving compliance and regulatory environment.
