About the Role
CDI is seeking an Associate Director or Director of Development to manage fundraising operations, reporting to the Co-Founder and Executive Director. This role involves running the fundraising operation behind the scenes and handling grant writing and reporting. It offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to work with an experienced fundraiser.
Responsibilities
- Lead development and submission of compelling grant proposals, reports, and donor materials.
- Translate CDI’s work and impact into clear, compelling narratives that resonate with funders.
- Collaborate with Finance, Marketing & Communications, and program teams to gather content for grants.
- Maintain a high standard for grant materials quality and process efficiency.
- Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar and proactively manage deadlines.
- Own the systems and infrastructure for fundraising operations, including CRM and funder records.
- Maintain and refine core fundraising assets like grant content, case studies, and reports.
- Partner with Finance to process contributions, track grant requirements, and maintain documentation.
- Keep the fundraising pipeline current and actionable, translating it into revenue projections.
- Build and improve workflows, tools, and systems for smooth fundraising operations.
- Manage preparation and follow-through for the Executive Director’s funder relationships.
- Support the Executive Director in shaping fundraising strategy and priorities.
- Conduct prospect and landscape research to identify new funding opportunities.
- Directly manage and steward a portfolio of funder relationships (depending on experience).
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in development or fundraising, including writing successful six- and seven-figure grants.
- Experience building systems and processes for fundraising operations, particularly in smaller or growing organizations.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, able to make complex ideas clear and compelling.
- Exceptionally organized and self-directed, with the ability to stay ahead of deadlines.
- Exceptionally detail-oriented with a high bar for quality and accuracy.
- Strong judgment, able to notice nuance and anticipate issues.
- Passionate about constructive dialogue and aligned with CDI’s values.
- For the Director role: 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in development or fundraising, including 2+ years in management or leadership.
- For the Director role: Experience owning funder relationships through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- For the Director role: Experience building and executing fundraising strategies to achieve philanthropic revenue goals of $1 million or more.
