About the Role
The HR Compliance Specialist II is a key regional subject matter expert focused on wage and hour compliance, timekeeping, and payroll governance across multiple states. This role acts as a liaison between Legal, HR, Payroll, Time & Attendance, and Operations to ensure consistent application of labor laws through audits, risk assessment, and guidance.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive monthly audits of timekeeping, scheduling, and payroll records for compliance with wage and hour laws, collective bargaining agreements, and company policies.
- Evaluate manager-initiated timekeeping adjustments to identify compliance risks and ensure accurate compensation.
- Audit meal and rest period compliance and related documentation to identify trends and mitigate risk.
- Serve as the primary compliance resource for assigned region operational leaders on scheduling, overtime, pay adjustments, and workforce administration.
- Lead the implementation of changes in labor and employment regulations, including wage laws and predictive scheduling.
- Design and deliver training sessions for managers on FLSA requirements, off-the-clock work, and meal/rest break regulations.
- Provide coaching to leaders on compliant timecard approval, documentation, and workforce management.
- Initiate and lead investigations into wage and hour concerns, payroll discrepancies, and compliance violations.
- Partner with Legal, HR, Payroll, and Operations to support regulatory audits, agency inquiries, and litigation support.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in workforce compliance, payroll administration, human resources, payroll, time and attendance, or workforce management or related field.
- Working knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), prevailing wage requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local labor and employment laws.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret regulations, assess risk, and apply compliance requirements.
- Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven project management and organizational capabilities.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis, reporting).
- Experience with timekeeping systems, payroll platforms, HRIS systems, and workforce management applications.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
- Primarily office-based role with extended periods of sitting and computer use.
- May require occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 15 lbs).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
