About the Role

Provide key support for a major upcoming exhibition of The Walther Collection, assisting with research and administrative tasks throughout its planning, development, and execution. This role supports the curatorial, administrative, and exhibitions team for an ambitious presentation of modern and contemporary photography and time-based media.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with loan paperwork, programming coordination, and artist correspondence.
  • Assist with bibliographic and provenance research, and exhibition history compilation.
  • Collaborate with the curatorial and editorial departments on the exhibition catalogue, including text editing, image rights, captions, bibliographies, and author correspondence.
  • Maintain the exhibition checklist in TMS and object files, process agreements, and coordinate database updates with the collections team.
  • Coordinate with the collections team to obtain and track installation requirements and other information in TMS.
  • Organize meetings with other Met departments, including Design, Education, Editorial, Registrar, External Affairs, and Development, and coordinate agendas and follow-up.
  • Support the Curator in exhibition design development and implementation, collaborating with the Design Department.
  • Assist the Curator with interpretive material composition, including labels, images, digital content, and securing rights.
  • Assist with grant applications and fundraising opportunities.
  • Assist with the exhibition web page build-out and promotional materials.
  • Assist with coordination of exhibition-related programs and symposia, and lead walkthroughs and gallery talks.
  • Assist with gallery installation/deinstallation and working with couriers.
  • Provide database support for Walther Collection rotations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Art History or related field; MA preferred.
  • Strong background in the history of photography, media and performance, visual and cultural studies, and/or global approaches to modern and contemporary art.
  • Interest in critical theory and decolonial studies is an asset.
  • Prior experience working with living artists, ideally within international contexts, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated academic research experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of German, Mandarin, Portuguese, or French is an asset.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel), Microsoft Teams, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Experience with TMS (The Museum System) database is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with impeccable organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
