About the Role
The Superintendent plays a key role in promoting and executing a safety-first culture, overseeing job site operations, and driving the quality, efficiency, and productivity of work crews. This role involves contributing to construction planning, managing multiple crews and subcontractors, and ensuring projects are completed on budget and schedule.
Responsibilities
- Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees and subcontractors.
- Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), and mentorship with crew.
- Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
- Track and report on projects, quality control, resource requirements, and customer relations.
- Oversee the job site and ensure Foreperson compliance with all assignments, project policies and procedures.
- Drive quality, efficiency, and productivity of work crews.
- Direct a foreperson on productivity issues and monitor work performance, working with crews to overcome challenges.
- Follow project plans and budgets while ensuring foreperson and crews perform to meet production goals.
- Understand the scope and sequencing of work, support Foreperson to plan and prioritize work, effectively redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
- Contribute to the development of a construction plan.
- Supervise multiple crews and subcontractors.
- Develop construction work methods.
- Plan materials, equipment needs and work schedule for civil operations.
- Review daily work schedule and productions with Field Engineers and update monthly schedule.
- Review and understand projects’ plans and specifications to support job set up activities.
- Document daily field activities and provide technical input to identify and resolve design problems.
- Determine crew structure for optimal performance on projects.
- Present production work plan to crews.
- Coordinate proper inspections and testing for assigned scopes of work with Quality Staff.
- Order and coordinate equipment and materials to complete production on budget and schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 7-10 years of relevant experience in the construction industry: civil, roads, bridges, tunnels or similar project.
- Hard working person with attention to detail.
- Construction site experience is desirable.
- Excellent Computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong adherence and promotion to OSHA and Project Specific Safety Policies.
- Able to use drafting software to develop construction means and method plans.
- Good understanding of how to read engineering drawings, documents and site plans.
- Experience with and understanding of Engineering tools/equipment, automated systems, remote tooling systems.
