About the Role
An operations assistant coordinates and leads daily warehouse and transportation operations to ensure the efficient, safe, and timely movement of food throughout the food bank’s network. This position serves as a central point of communication between drivers, warehouse staff, partner agencies, and operations leadership, while also providing hands-on leadership and operational support.
Responsibilities
- Maintain truck logs, dispatch and check-in of drivers, headcount/truck forecasting, and provide operational updates.
- Ship, maintain, and monitor WMS for issues with orders.
- Monitor returns, order overages and shortages, and report discrepancies.
- Verify invoices and driver logs.
- Process returns reports and coordinate returns and re-deliveries with inventory control/logistics teams.
- Perform typing, data entry, and other clerical duties for the operations team.
- Assist transportation managers with clerical tasks.
- Monitor security system and respond to intercom.
- Collaborate with staff to achieve operational goals.
- Assign/adjust routes designated by transportation managers.
- Validate returns from food sourcing routes and update teams.
- Communicate route delays/changes to operations departments.
- Provide end-of-day recap to the operations department.
- Perform other duties as assigned, such as loading trucks and inventory management.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 1 year related work experience
- Proficiency in MS Office, WMS and Fleet Tracking systems
- Accurate numerical data entry skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to operate electric pallet jacks and manual pump jacks
- Positive attitude, team-oriented, and comfortable interacting with diverse individuals
