About the Role
Join our Weight Management and Metabolic Health team as a full-time Behavioral Health Counselor, providing essential support to patients undergoing medical weight management programs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct behavioral health screenings and assessments for patients in medical weight management programs.
- Assess psychosocial factors affecting weight management, including emotional eating, binge eating, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep issues, and adherence barriers.
- Provide short-term, evidence-based behavioral interventions using motivational interviewing, CBT, ACT, and other appropriate techniques.
- Assist patients in developing individualized behavior change goals for nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, and medication adherence.
- Support patients on anti-obesity medications by addressing behavioral challenges impacting treatment success.
- Provide counseling and support for body image, self-esteem, lifestyle modification, and long-term weight maintenance.
- Conduct individual behavioral health visits focused on weight management and healthy lifestyle changes.
- Identify patients needing specialty mental health, substance use, or eating disorder treatment and facilitate referrals.
Requirements
- Fully licensed as a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) prior to hire.
- Experience providing behavioral health services to adult populations.
- Experience utilizing evidence-based behavioral interventions, including motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral strategies.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
