About the Role

Premier Health Partners, PC, a partner of Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), seeks a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join their ambulatory team. This role involves cross-training for Patient Services Representative duties, playing a crucial part in delivering high-quality patient care and supporting medical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examinations by rooming, taking vital signs, height/weight, recording reason for visit, screenings, and medical histories.
  • Greets and checks in patients, verifies demographics, checks insurance eligibility, and collects/processes payments and co-pays.
  • Answers and directs phone calls, addressing patient inquiries and redirecting clinical needs to nurses/providers.
  • Performs routine lab tests and collects/labels laboratory specimens.
  • Schedules patient appointments and manages the appointment calendar, including making, rescheduling, and canceling appointments.
  • Maintains accurate patient records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and paper files.
  • Assists with locating charts, pulling charts for upcoming appointments, printing EMR information, and acquiring reports from outside facilities.
  • Obtains patients' insurance information, demographics, and prior authorizations for testing.
  • Ensures cleanliness of patient rooms, stocks medical supplies, and manages inventory.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participates in staff development and staff meetings.
  • Provides excellent customer service with professionalism and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Performs other duties assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • 1 year experience as a medical assistant in an ambulatory care setting, preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, preferred
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant, preferred

Skills

  • Proficient in performing clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, updating patient chart information and recording other medical data
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and other healthcare technology

  • Ability to handle various clinical situations
