About the Role

The On Your Mark Café is seeking a qualified cook in a Day Habilitation program that serves the public. This role supports individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, focusing on food-industry skills development through food preparation and teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the mission, philosophy, and valued outcomes of On Your Mark, Inc.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and On Your Mark policy and procedure.
  • Intervene appropriately and report any incidents or suspected incidents of abuse and/or neglect IMMEDIATELY to a supervisor.
  • Prepare the entire menu in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.
  • Communicate to management when quantities of food, beverages, and other supplies need to be ordered.
  • Upon delivery check quality of food, baked goods, and beverages.
  • Ensure the quality/quantity of items prepared meet industry and agency standards.
  • Ensure that safe food handling procedures are maintained.
  • Oversee the safe operation of all mechanical apparatus.
  • Attend all in-services/workshops and attain certifications as necessary.
  • Manage grill & food preparation areas - daily stocking, chop/slice vegetables, restocking, and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Assist in skill acquisition by teaching individuals how to prepare all food items on our menu.
  • Inform immediate supervisors, in advance, of any absences or lateness.
  • Respond politely and professionally to all program participants, co-workers, other professionals, customers, vendors, and management.
  • Carry out any other responsibilities concerning programming and safety deemed necessary by the Director of Employment Initiatives/Directors of Day Habilitation.
  • Maintain New York State Food Handler’s License and attend any assigned trainings/certifications.
  • Maintain Valid Job Coaching Certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • New York State Food Handler’s License.
  • Valid Job Coaching Certification.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • A valid Driver’s License and ability to drive agency vehicles.

Skills

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Self-directed and motivated to function independently, completing tasks in a timely manner, yet remaining flexible to the program’s needs.
  • Creative and solution-oriented thinkers preferred.
  • Experience cooking in a commercial setting.
