About the Role

We are seeking a Legal and Product Engineer who bridges patent law and AI innovation to ensure our AI engine is technically superior and legally sound. This role is crucial for leading conversations with Japanese IP teams, given the strong interest and traction in the Japanese market.

Responsibilities

Partner with the AI team to iterate on algorithms and prompt engineering, specializing LLMs for patent-specific tasks.
Build proprietary datasets and evaluation frameworks to measure AI performance against patent office requirements.
Serve as the internal voice of the practitioner, translating client insights into high-priority product features.
Act as a technical thought partner for IP teams, leading pilots and ensuring AI scales across workflows.
Document and scale best practices for AI adoption across diverse sectors.
Be the technical voice of Solve for Japanese law firms and corporate IP departments, conducting demos and technical discussions in Japanese.
Support the team at conferences and client meetings in Japan.
Lead pilots with Japanese clients.
Ensure AI handles Japanese-language patent documents and JPO practice effectively.
Build benchmarks to prove AI performance for Japanese patent documents and practice.

Requirements

Qualified Professional admitted to practice before the USPTO, EPO or JPO.
3+ years of direct experience in patent prosecution.
Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Life Sciences.
Native or business-level fluency in Japanese (JLPT N1 or equivalent).
Ability to conduct detailed technical and legal conversations in Japanese with a senior IP team.
Based in London or New York.
Willingness to travel to Japan regularly for conferences, pilots, and client meetings.
Hands-on experience with prompt engineering and LLM tools (preferred).
Proven ability to manage relationships and lead strategic product demos (preferred).
A deep belief that AI will fundamentally redefine the legal landscape (preferred).
Existing relationships with Japanese law firms or corporate IP departments (preferred).
