About the Role
The Risk and Resilience Specialist plays a key role in the development, implementation, and administration of the University’s Enterprise Risk Management, Insurance, and Business Continuity programs. This role independently manages the day-to-day delivery of these programs and provides senior analytical and program support to the insurance portfolio. The Specialist facilitates risk assessments, develops frameworks and tools for consistent risk management practices, and leads institution-wide business continuity and resilience activities. The role requires building relationships, influencing without direct authority, and translating complex risk information into practical recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage the day-to-day delivery of the University’s enterprise risk management and business continuity programs.
- Provide senior analytical and program support to the insurance portfolio.
- Facilitate risk assessments.
- Develop frameworks, tools, and resources to support consistent risk management practices.
- Facilitate institution-wide business continuity and resilience activities.
- Move initiatives from concept through implementation.
- Monitor progress of initiatives.
- Identify emerging issues.
- Ensure risk management activities remain aligned with institutional priorities.
- Build relationships and influence without direct authority.
- Translate complex risk information into practical recommendations.
- Develop and manage systems and related protocols to maintain timely, detailed, secure, and confidential case files and records.
- Ensure adherence to all University retention and FIPPA policies.
Requirements
- University degree in business administration, risk management, finance, public administration, or a relevant discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in enterprise risk management, business continuity, project management, or a related discipline, preferably within a university, public-sector, or similarly complex organization.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Experience maintaining databases, registers, trackers, records, and document-management systems.
- Experience conducting risk assessment and translating complex information into clear, practical recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with individuals across multiple organizational levels.
- Experience collecting, reviewing, consolidating, and presenting information for reports, dashboards, briefing notes, or presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan, prioritize, and execute complex work with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor multiple deliverables, manage competing priorities, and follow up effectively on outstanding actions.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, diplomacy, and tact when working with sensitive and confidential information.
- Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Skills
- Excellent facilitation, consultation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing professional correspondence, reports, meeting materials, and presentations.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
