About the Role

The Bell Radio Access Network (RAN) Site Architecture team is seeking a motivated individual to define the long-term vision and strategy for site architecture, focusing on electrical infrastructure and power management. In this senior technical leadership role, you will guide the technology roadmap for site-level power systems, evaluate and introduce emerging sustainable energy technologies, and establish architectural standards to reduce network energy consumption and operating expenses. As a subject matter expert, you will take ownership and collaborate cross-functionally to standardize robust, resilient, and highly efficient energy practices, while directly contributing to broader RAN site architecture standards, designs, and technical decisions across the national network.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and execute the long-term national technology strategy roadmap for power management and power plant infrastructure across the RAN.
  • Evaluate emerging site-level power demands driven by wireless network densification (small cells, 5G/6G deployments) and edge computing, proactively adapting power architecture to support future scale.
  • Define architectural standards, site designs, and exemplary engineering practices specifically aimed at reducing operating expenditures (OPEX) across national sites.
  • Lead the technical evaluation and network-wide introduction of emerging renewable energy technologies, establishing site-level technical standards and guidelines.
  • Evaluate traditional electrical infrastructure equipment (e.g., rectifiers, DC power plants, battery/generator systems) and manage vendor roadmaps to ensure strict technical, quality, and safety compliance.
  • Lead advanced AI and ML-driven energy initiatives, focusing on SMART capabilities such as predictive maintenance, load forecasting, and dynamic load shedding.
  • Own technical power consumption strategies required to achieve corporate carbon footprint reduction and carbon neutrality objectives, ensuring all site facilities comply with environmental regulations, safety standards, and local electrical codes.
  • Actively track global telecom industry trends, regulatory updates, and vendor innovations related to sustainability and energy efficiency in telecom networks.
  • Develop comprehensive business cases, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analyses, and cost-benefit frameworks to financially justify investments in new energy technologies and optimization initiatives.
  • Serve as the principal subject matter expert, providing strong technical direction, architectural guidance, and mentorship to engineers and architects on electrical and power infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Power Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience in telecommunications, utilities, or critical infrastructure.
  • Deep technical expertise in electrical power network systems, rectifiers, battery chemistries (VRLA, Li-ion), and backup generator operations.
  • Proven ability to develop financial models, cost-benefit analyses, and TCO evaluations for capital projects.
  • Expertise in regulatory compliance, including a strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), IEEE standards for electrical power, and global telecom energy sustainability and efficiency guidelines (e.g., GSMA, ATIS, and ETSI).
  • Strong leadership with a proven track record of influencing senior-level stakeholders and driving alignment across multi-functional engineering teams.
