About the Role
The Paraeducator will assist in performing academic and behavior support duties for students within special education and regular classrooms, both in-person and virtually. This role complements the instructional program to maximize learning opportunities and assists in behavior management and student access to the educational environment. The position is paid over 12 months, including school breaks.
Responsibilities
- Assist students in small groups or one-to-one assignments to reinforce learning activities.
- Assist in the implementation of behavior intervention plans using positive reinforcement strategies.
- Facilitate and support social interactions between students with disabilities and their peers.
- Model appropriate behavior and attitudes, providing emotional support and general guidance.
- Support students to be active participants on field trips and school assemblies.
- Provide testing accommodations, including supervision during extended time.
- Provide the Education Specialist with information on student progress through observation and data tracking.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe, and cooperative classroom environment.
- Assist physically disabled students with personal hygiene and grooming functions.
- Report suspected health problems to appropriate school personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and classroom information.
- Maintain instructional program in the temporary absence of the Education Specialist.
- Attend and participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and Student Study Meetings.
- Maintain professional standards and competence through professional growth opportunities.
- Maintain consistent and on-time attendance.
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Paid or volunteer experience working with or serving individuals with academic, behavioral, or functional needs preferred.
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
- A.A. degree or B.A. degree (or minimum 48 units in process) or Pass the ETS ParaPro Assessment (passing score = 460) or CBEST exams (for Title I paraprofessionals with instructional support duties).

- Ability to communicate well with students, families, and colleagues.
- Proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.).
- Ability to learn and utilize instructional technology (i.e. Zoom, Nearpod).
- Ability to navigate school and classroom settings.
- Ability to access and utilize technology.
- Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs.
- Physical agility to move self in various positions including kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead.
- Ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives.
- Ability to work with interruptions.
- Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
- Ability to read, calculate, and perform routine math problems.
- Ability to memorize and recall objects and people.

Salary/Compensations
- $20.92 - $24.84 / hour
- Paid over a 12 month period, including scheduled school breaks and summer break.
