About the Role
Union College seeks socio-cultural candidates for an Assistant Professor of Anthropology position, beginning September 1, 2026. The role involves teaching courses on religion and gender, and potentially kinship, childhood, education, visual anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. The ideal candidate will also be willing to direct an ethnographic field school.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses on religion and gender.
- Teach courses in areas such as kinship, childhood, education, visual anthropology, and linguistic anthropology.
- Offer courses in geographic areas underrepresented in the current Union College curriculum, including Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, or among the indigenous peoples of the Americas or Oceania.
- Direct an ethnographic field school in rotation with another faculty member.
- Teach six courses over three ten-week trimesters.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Anthropology in hand is preferred.
- ABD candidates are welcome to apply.
- Candidates in closely related fields are welcome to apply.
- Teaching experience is preferred.
