About the Role
The New York Times Wirecutter team is seeking a Senior Manager, Audience & Product Analytics to drive their growth strategy by building an understanding of their audience, their engagement with content and product features, and their return behavior. This role involves leading a team of analysts, providing data-driven insights, and collaborating with various leads to set goals, design experiments, and identify new opportunities. The position reports to the Executive Director of Data Analytics and Insights, Wirecutter.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of three direct reports, fostering a culture of curiosity and excellence, setting clear deliverables, supporting career growth, and ensuring high-quality analytics output.
- Analyze audience growth, traffic drivers, customer journey touchpoints, and user engagement trends to inform strategic decision-making.
- Partner with functional leads (Product, Design, Engineering, Editorial) to set strategy, define goals, and build the audience and product analytics roadmap.
- Lead the design, execution, and post-analysis of product experiments (A/B testing), providing expertise on primary metrics, trade-offs, and recommendations for product evolution.
- Translate complex behavioral data and insights into compelling narratives and actionable recommendations.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of journalistic independence and the company's mission.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in data analytics, with direct experience working with product or publishing teams.
- 2+ years of dedicated people leadership experience managing analysts.
- 5+ years of experience in A/B testing.
- 1+ years of experience reporting on audience engagement, traffic trends, or customer journey modeling for a digital publisher or media organization.
- Advanced mastery of SQL.
- Experience with BI/data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker).
