Responsibilities
- Support and supervise family time between parents and children, siblings, and other significant resources, providing transportation as needed.
- Provide visit coaching between parents and children to support healthy family engagement.
- Complete ongoing documentation in Connections within 7 business days of the event date.
- Partner with the case planning team on Permanency Hearing Reports and court documents related to Case Aide's family communication, contact, and collaboration.
- Support case planning staff in gathering vital documents such as birth certificates and social security cards.
- Accompany and support children and parents through various appointments including school, medical, and drug treatment.
- Support families through the Public Assistance process, PATH process, and provide referrals.
- Meet with families in their home and/or community as needed.
- Intervene in crisis situations to help the child and family stabilize.
- Attend and testify in court appearances as needed.
- Attend interdisciplinary team meetings and provide information regarding services being provided to the child.
- Fulfill the duty of Mandated Reporter, reporting any suspected instances of child abuse or maltreatment.
- Meet with Supervisor one-on-one consistently to discuss safety and permanency issues of caseload.
- Communicate and work effectively with SCO foster care support staff and external agencies including NYC Children’s Services, medical and mental health centers, schools, and consultants.
- Adhere to SCO’s personnel policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma. Associates degree preferred.
- Approved background clearances and fingerprinting are required.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Basic computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Bilingual abilities are strongly encouraged.
- Valid NYS Driver License required.
- Knowledge of local welfare services is a plus.
- Must be team players, maintaining a constructive, cooperative, and positive atmosphere.
- Demonstrate commitment to the Agency’s mission and values.
- Able to empathize and provide quality services to children and families with histories of chemical dependency, mental illness, neglect, physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse.
- Willing to work closely with children, families, and staff from different cultural and religious backgrounds, and varying socio-economic statuses.
- Work competently, compassionately, and without judgment with individuals who may identify as LGBTQ+.
- Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change; forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families.
- Flexible in ability to work extended hours or irregular schedules.
- Willing to travel between various EFFC offices and other agency sites as required.
- Demonstrate ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of practitioner, and to intervene appropriately.
