About the Role
The AI & DX (Developer Experience) Analytics team measures and improves Block's developer experience and AI investment. This role will own parts of the analytics pipeline end-to-end, transforming raw engineering signals into reporting and analysis that shape AI investment decisions and drive improvements in AI ROI and developer experience. You will be responsible for instrumenting new telemetry, building production pipelines, and creating executive-facing reporting and analysis to identify opportunities for improvement. A key aspect of this role involves pioneering methods to measure the productivity impact of an AI-augmented engineering workforce.
Responsibilities
- Instrument and extend raw telemetry for AI usage, code changes, CI/CD activity, and spend.
- Partner with data engineers on production ETL pipelines for telemetry data.
- Define new metrics from ambiguous or evolving signals and validate them.
- Build and ship executive-facing dashboards and visualizations.
- Run analysis for new charts and metrics, anticipating executive questions.
- Translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable narratives.
- Use AI coding agents as a default for writing, testing, and maintaining data pipelines, dashboards, and analyses.
- Partner across data engineering, applied AI, and data science teams to ensure end-to-end telemetry connection.
- Identify areas where AI spend is not effective or developer friction is costly, and drive changes.
- Quantify AI and agent productivity impact, setting industry standards.
Requirements
- Self-sufficient across the full analytics loop: instrumentation, pipeline building, metric definition, and dashboards.
- Comfortable working with messy, evolving telemetry and judging the accuracy of new numbers.
- Strong product thinking to understand stakeholder needs.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and motivated to set standards for measuring AI/agent productivity impact.
- Exceptional communication skills to defend metric methodologies and chart framing to senior stakeholders.
- Proficient in using AI coding agents for building and evaluating outputs.
- 8+ years in analytics engineering, data engineering, or business intelligence, owning production data pipelines and insights end-to-end.
- Strong SQL and Python skills.
- Hands-on experience building and operating data pipelines against a cloud data warehouse like Snowflake.
- Experience partnering with engineering teams to instrument new event or telemetry data.
- Experience building dashboards or internal tools for non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort with Git, CI/CD systems, and debugging production pipeline failures.
- Experience with a metrics-governance or semantic-layer system (e.g., metrics store, dbt semantic layer, LookML) is a plus.
