About the Role
The Purchasing Assistant works under the supervision of the Purchasing Manager, primarily responsible for pulling and verifying material for service & construction jobs, maintaining stock room inventory, and serving as a backup for other department positions. Availability for scheduled on-call/off-hours work and flexibility are required.
Responsibilities
- Pull, stage, and verify material to ensure accuracy for all required components.
- Note necessary tools, gas, and refrigerants for outgoing service jobs.
- Organize staged service jobs, ensuring materials are properly aligned and tracked.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for parts and consumable items in the stock room.
- Reclaim, consolidate, pull, and schedule refrigerant disposal according to procedures.
- Maintain accurate refrigerant inventory, usage, disposal, and compliance records.
- Follow company policies and procedures for purchasing goods.
- Keep the stockroom clean and well-organized.
- Be on-call for after-hours back-up service.
- Serve as a backup to purchasing agents and warehouse associates during absences.
- Perform backup functions including receiving inbound mail & freight, loading/unloading trucks, running errands, and issuing purchase orders.
- Maintain an acceptable attendance record with no more than five unapproved absences per year.
Requirements
- 1-2 years' experience in HVAC/Plumbing warehouse/supply is a plus, but not mandatory.
- A high level of organizational skill is a must.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Valid Driver's License and clean DMV record.
- Ability to pass Criminal/Drug screening.
- Ability to operate a box truck and work van is preferred.
- Ability to operate a forklift with proper certification is preferred.
- OSHA 10/30 certification is preferred.
- Parts and tools identification.
- Excellent follow-up skills.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Solid decision-making skills within the scope of the position.
- Ability to adapt to the day-to-day requirements of the Service Department.
- Exceptional time management skills.
- Knowledge of materials surrounding HVAC.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organizational skills are necessary.
- Fluent understanding of the English language.
- Must pass criminal background check, drug screening, DMV search, and reference verification.
