About the Role

The Director, Major Gifts is a senior fundraising position responsible for building, leading, and growing Canada Soccer Foundation's Major Gifts program. This individual will develop and implement strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, close, and steward major gifts in support of the Foundation's strategic priorities. The role involves managing a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects, building a structured pipeline, and advancing relationships through a donor-centric stewardship approach. This position carries significant personal revenue responsibility and requires close collaboration with senior leadership, board members, and internal partners to secure significant philanthropic investments.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement a comprehensive major gifts strategy aligned with annual revenue goals, campaign priorities, and long-term philanthropic growth plans.
Actively manage and solicit a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, focusing on gifts of $10,000+ and opportunities for six-figure and transformative commitments.
Personally lead cultivation, solicitation, negotiation, closing, stewardship, and renewal activities with donors to increase major gift revenue and long-term donor value.
Proactively identify and develop new philanthropic relationships and networks, leveraging Canada Soccer's national platform, events, stakeholders, and broader sports and business community to generate new major gift opportunities.
Develop donor strategies, solicitation plans, giving opportunities, proposals, gift agreements, briefing notes, presentations, impact reports, and other materials to support successful fundraising outcomes.
Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators, including donor meetings, solicitations, proposal values, revenue advancement, projected asks, pipeline progression, stewardship activity completion, and overall portfolio activity.
Maintain accurate revenue forecasts and provide regular updates on portfolio, pipeline, and performance to the VP, Philanthropy and CEO.
Build and deepen long-term relationships with major donors, prospective donors, corporate leaders, foundations, community stakeholders, and Canadian soccer advocates.
Develop individualized donor strategies using a stewardship framework to advance prospects through identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, engagement, stewardship, and renewal stages.
Collaborate with the VP, Philanthropy, senior leadership, and board members to prepare for donor meetings, cultivation opportunities, and strategic asks.
Professionally represent the Foundation at donor meetings, events, game days, community engagement activities, and other relationship-building opportunities.
Play a central role in advancing the Foundation's campaign and long-term philanthropic growth program, identifying and advancing leadership, major, and transformative gift opportunities.
Support pipeline growth and donor segmentation efforts that strengthen the Foundation's fundraising priorities.
Work cross-functionally with marketing, events, communications, finance, and sport development teams to align donor engagement with organizational priorities and deliver a seamless donor experience.
Build strong relationships with coaches, technical leaders, athletes, and team and program operations staff to develop a deep understanding of Canada Soccer's priorities and translate emerging needs and opportunities into compelling philanthropic investments.
Lead or support campaign initiatives, donor events, game day experiences, and other fundraising opportunities that advance major gift relationships and revenue goals.
Provide strategic direction for campaign planning, fundraising case development, pipeline growth, donor segmentation, and the Foundation's fundraising priorities.
Ensure donors consistently understand the impact of their investment, connecting funded priorities to tangible outcomes, stories, and experiences throughout the donor lifecycle.
Ensure timely recognition and reporting communications to key donors.
Maintain accurate and timely donor records in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, including contact reports, next steps, proposal status, giving interests, stewardship actions, and revenue forecasts.
Collaborate with program and communications teams to translate Canada Soccer Foundation priorities, outcomes, and impact into compelling donor materials.

Requirements

Over 7 years of progressive fundraising or philanthropic development experience, including direct experience managing major donor portfolios and closing gifts.
Demonstrated ability to independently develop new relationships and build a major gifts pipeline, including identifying and qualifying prospects without prior relationship.
Proven success in personally cultivating, soliciting, and closing five- and six-figure gifts, with the ability to advance transformative gift opportunities.
Strong knowledge of major gift fundraising, donor stewardship, prospect management, moves management, and relationship-based solicitation strategies.
Experience working with senior leaders, board members, volunteers, and donors in support of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
Experience utilizing a CRM system and donor management platforms to track portfolio activity, donor engagement, pipeline progression, stewardship, and revenue advancement.
Exceptional written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling proposals, donor correspondence, impact reports, briefing documents, and presentations.
Strategic, results-oriented, highly organized individual capable of managing competing priorities with sound judgment, discretion, initiative, and follow-through.
Occasional evening and weekend work will be required for donor meetings, cultivation events, game days, and Foundation fundraising activities.
Occasional travel within Canada may be required to support donor meetings, events, and relationship development.
