About the Role

This role is responsible for managing Japan's import and export compliance programs, ensuring adherence to all applicable trade regulations. You will serve as a subject matter expert, working cross-functionally to ensure compliant and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

Manage Japan import compliance programs including tariff classification, customs valuation, country of origin determination, and FTA/EPA utilization
Oversee customs broker management including SOP development, performance monitoring, and issue resolution
Prepare and submit import amendment filings as required
Serve as primary point of contact with Japan Customs authorities during Post Entry Audits and other regulatory engagements
Manage export control compliance programs including classification, controls, and license application management
Maintain and enhance the internal compliance program for export control
Manage end-use/end-user screening processes
Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for trade compliance operations
Build and maintain metrics/KPIs to measure program health and identify areas for improvement
Partner with technology teams to identify automation opportunities and drive system enhancements
Monitor regulatory changes and assess business impact; communicate updates to relevant stakeholders
Engage with industry groups and government bodies on regulatory developments; provide trade law expertise to inform Amazon's policy positions
Manage internal and external audit responses and corrective action plans
Deliver compliance reporting and risk assessments to senior leadership

Requirements

4+ years of compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, risk/loss prevention, or equivalent experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Experience handling confidential information
3+ years of program requirements definition and data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements experience
Professional auditing qualification, or similar risk or compliance credentials
Experience with SQL and Excel
