About the Role
The Learning Experience Design Manager is responsible for the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of learning programs and experiences across the organization. The role partners with leaders and subject matter experts to assess learning needs, develop effective learning solutions, and facilitate learning experiences that build employee knowledge and skills. The manager ensures learning programs are engaging, impactful, and aligned with organizational priorities through strong project management, stakeholder collaboration, and creative application of adult learning principles. The position also contributes to strengthening the overall effectiveness of the L&D function and department operations.
Responsibilities
- Partners with stakeholders to identify learning and performance needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Leads or collaborates on the design, development, curation, and continuous improvement of learning experiences grounded in adult learning principles.
- Manages learning programs and learning design projects from inception through implementation and evaluation.
- Facilitates learning experiences and promotes high standards for facilitator effectiveness and learner engagement.
- Helps advance learning quality standards, evaluation practices, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Builds collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to advance organizational learning goals.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and quality standards for trainers, facilitators, and learning contributors.
- Translates business needs into measurable learning outcomes.
- Creates curricula, learning journeys, instructional content, educational media, workshops, session slides, train-the-trainer programs, facilitator guides, learner resources, manager guides, and support tools.
- Sources and evaluates external learning resources, programs, and content providers.
- Develops project plans, timelines, communication strategies, and implementation approaches for learning initiatives.
- Coordinates with stakeholders, facilitators, vendors, and project teams to ensure successful execution.
- Monitors program effectiveness and recommends improvements based on learner and stakeholder feedback.
- Supports learning evaluation efforts.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of learning quality standards, design standards, and best practices.
- Participates in departmental initiatives related to learning governance.
- Uses data, stakeholder feedback, and emerging practices to inform improvements and enhancements to learning programs and services.
- Manages relationships with learning vendors, consultants, facilitators, and content providers.
- Supports vendor selection, implementation, and evaluation processes.
- Represents Learning & Development and S:US on cross-functional initiatives, committees, workgroups, and external partnerships.
- Serves as an advocate for learning, employee development, and HR across the organization.
- Serves as an internal learning consultant to leaders, managers, and teams.
- Advises on learning strategies, instructional approaches, and performance improvement solutions, as well as implementation logistics.
- Facilitates learning experiences through live in-person, live online, and asynchronous learning delivery modalities.
- Coaches and supports trainers, facilitators, and subject matter experts involved in learning delivery.
- Promotes facilitation standards and learner engagement best practices.
- Leads or supports train-the-trainer activities and learning delivery quality assurance efforts.
- Supports the development of facilitator capability and capacity across the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Learning & Development, Instructional Design, Education, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in instructional design, learning experience design, organizational development, talent development, training, or a related field.
- Strong consultation, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organization.
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and implementing learning programs and curricula for adult learners.
- Demonstrated experience designing creative, low-budget solutions.
- Strong knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design methodologies, and learning experience design principles.
- Experience conducting learning needs analyses, clarifying stakeholder needs, and translating business challenges into measurable learning outcomes and effective learning and performance solutions.
- Experience managing multiple complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and simultaneous initiatives.
- Experience evaluating learning effectiveness to drive continuous improvement.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and communication skills across audiences.
- Experience with authoring tools and learning technologies such as Articulate 360, Rise, Camtasia.
- Experience working with learning management systems (LMS) and learning technologies.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, Education, or a related field.
- Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating leadership development programs for emerging, frontline, mid-level, and experienced leaders.
- Experience leading enterprise-wide learning programs.
- Experience designing and delivering learning solutions within a human services, social services, or behavioral health environment.
- Experience developing and implementing learning measurement and evaluation frameworks.
- Experience developing learning media and assets, including video, audio, slide presentations, job aids, and graphics.
