About the Role
Software-defined vehicles are transforming transportation, with software as the core engine for data processing, security, and user experience. General Motors is seeking mission-driven talent focused on customer-centric technology and sustainability to build next-generation commercial fleet platforms at scale. In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will lead and develop high-performance backend services and systems for GM Commercial Software, steering the system architecture, APIs, products, and customers.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable and performant services and systems
- Build and launch new capabilities and products that bring significant value to customers internal and external
- Uphold our high engineering standards. Elevate quality and engineering efficiency within our codebases.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization including product, design, and other engineering functions.
- Mentor engineers earlier in their technical career to help them grow.
- Explore new technologies and enrich our technological stack.
- Actively participate in technical discussions and deep dives with architectural group.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on backend software development
- Experience in building production-quality, highly performant and scalable distributed systems and Service-Oriented architecture
- Experience in one of the JVM languages Java / Scala / Kotlin + SpringBoot.
- Experience in writing high quality production code that is tested thoroughly, supported by clear documentation and has appropriate production observability
- Strong CS fundamentals, including OO concepts, data structures, algorithms, and systems architecture
- Solid understanding and experience with NoSQL and relational DB
- Empathy with users internal and external, and a strong customer focus
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
