About the Role
The Patient Care Specialist assists with pharmacy operations not requiring pharmacist judgment, primarily handling customer calls regarding drug delivery, setup, and related services.
Responsibilities
- Answer patient inquiries about billing, procedures, policies, and available services via incoming and outgoing calls.
- Act as a liaison between patients and insurance companies.
- Facilitate communication between patients and doctors, medical staff, and administrative staff.
- Maintain patient records, including filing and documentation.
- Perform setup and data entry tasks.
- Handle packaging and shipping.
- Manage financial arrangements and collect co-payments.
- Coordinate benefits.
- Coordinate financial assistance.
- Provide prior authorization assistance with offices.
- Perform billing.
- Collaborate with the patient services department and other departments to share information and improve processes.
- Function in accordance with standard procedures and guidelines, with deviations approved by the supervising pharmacist.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- One (1) year of experience in a high-volume pharmacy or equivalent setting, or six (6) months as a temporary Patient Care Specialist or in the Reliance Operations & Compliance department.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Aptitude for working with other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 5lbs.
