About the Role

Atelier Ten San Francisco is seeking a full-time Environmental Designer Energy Analyst specializing in California’s Title 24, Part 6 Building Energy Efficiency Standards to deliver innovative, high-performance building projects. This role involves performing energy modeling, analyzing projects, preparing compliance documentation, developing technical deliverables, and collaborating with teams to advance energy efficiency and decarbonization goals.

Responsibilities

Develop energy models and compliance documentation for California Title 24 Part 6 projects using approved compliance software.
Support project teams through design, permitting, and code review processes.
Learn and apply internal methodologies that follow the energy analysis protocols of ASHRAE 90.1 for new and existing building and planning projects.
Develop shoe-box and whole building energy models in CBECC, EnergyPro and/or IES-VE to support a range of energy analyses.
Identify and analyze net-zero energy and carbon strategies based on various metrics.
Analyze building envelope, HVAC, lighting, and domestic hot water systems for compliance with California Energy Code requirements.
Identify cost-effective pathways to exceed minimum code performance.
Prepare written summaries of work and technical reports for clients or other stakeholders.
Support senior staff to coordinate sustainability assessments, energy and thermal comfort analysis, energy benchmarking, and development of climate impact mitigation strategies.
Perform life cycle cost analysis on building and planning projects.
Collaborate closely with architects and design team members to make energy and carbon emissions improvement recommendations.
Attend site visits and project meetings.
Present analyses to stakeholders.
Work with Atelier Ten’s Energy Analysis practice leader to develop new approaches and tools to improve team efficiency.
Develop and maintain in-house databases and spreadsheet tools, methods and standards.

Requirements

Bachelor's or higher degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, or Sustainable Building Design.
1-3 years professional work experience in building energy analysis and California Title 24 Energy Code compliance modeling.
Experience using specialized energy simulation software (IESVE, EnergyPlus, CBECC, EnergyPro and/or eQuest).
Proficiency in applying heat transfer concepts to evaluate building envelopes and passive strategies.
Ability to analyze psychrometric charts and perform climate analysis.
Experience with HVAC system design alternatives.
Strong foundational knowledge of thermodynamics.
Experience or understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems design for commercial buildings.
Understanding and application of ASHRAE Standards 55, 62.1, 90.1, and 189.
Demonstrated competency in California’s Title 24, Part 6 Energy Code.
Proficiency in energy compliance modeling.
Experience with Green Building Rating Systems (e.g., LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge).
Verbal and written fluency in English.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
