About the Role
The Senior Claims Adjuster manages a portfolio of transactional liability and financial lines claims, from notification to settlement. This role supports the Head of Third Party Claims and the wider claims team in delivering Chaucer’s claims proposition to stakeholders, including policyholders, brokers, and underwriters.
Responsibilities
- Manage transactional liability claims including warranty & indemnity, contingent liability and title from first advice through to closure.
- Determine coverage, set reserves, and manage settlement for claims.
- Liaise with co-insurers on large or contentious claims, including issuing market circulars.
- Assign, manage, and control relevant service providers throughout the life of a claim.
- Maintain electronic claims records to accurately reflect the current position.
- Attend and arrange market, broker, and client meetings.
- Advise the claims manager and class underwriters of material claims and keep them appraised of developments.
- Communicate with management and key internal departments regarding claims trends and issues.
- Liaise with the Reinsurance department for notifications and updates to reinsurers.
- Consult with class underwriters for clarification of underwriting intent.
- Escalate requests for ex-gratia / commercial settlements and disputed coverage to the line manager.
- Build and maintain relationships with brokers, adjusters, agents, cover holders, DCAs, and other service providers.
- Exercise knowledge of the laws of tort and contract and stay updated on relevant statutory and case developments.
- Stay abreast of technical developments within the International Casualty business area.
- Provide guidance to customers on how to make and/or progress a claim.
- Supply appropriate information to customers on any claim being handled.
- Achieve prompt agreement on settlement terms and pay valid claims in a timely manner.
- Ensure customer complaints are promptly identified, recorded, and referred.
- Ensure the principles of Treating Customers Fairly are upheld by agents and service providers.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory training requirements.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies such as Lloyd’s and the FC.
Requirements
- Extensive experience handling financial lines claims for a London market insurer or a London insurance market law firm.
- Experience handling W&I and Contingent Liability claims for a London market insurer or a London insurance market law firm.
- Experience with handling Title claims.
