About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of Taxation and Accounting Services, this role is responsible for the timely processing of adjustments to the Collector’s Roll, payment-in-lieu and mortgage company billings and payments, processing refunds resulting from overpayments of tax accounts and court reductions, and handling communications with the public regarding tax/assessment appeals, tax roll additions, and refund payments.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in PIL and tax billings (mortgage companies, PAP and supplementaries).
  • Ensures adjustments to tax accounts (divisions, cap adjustments, phase-ins) required by Provincial Legislation are completed.
  • Coordinates tax roll changes due to updates in name, address, legal description, or assessment.
  • Ensures monthly tax close-offs are performed efficiently and effectively.
  • Coordinates monthly reconciliation of the Tax Collector's roll and related accounts to the general ledger.
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the tax-related revenue budget, providing input for the budget and payments-in-lieu budget.
  • Provides preliminary review of job functions completed by tax accounting clerks.
  • Processes mortgage company and developer payments provided in prescribed list form.
  • Completes tax account analysis and related journals.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to the tax accounting function.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three year Community College Business - Accounting Diploma.
  • Two to three years' related experience.
  • Unit I and II of the Municipal Tax Administration Program.
  • Applicants may be required to complete a job-related test.
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check.
