About the Role

As a Unit Secretary, you are an integral part of the nursing unit, relying on your help with communications, process management, and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily administration, including answering telephones, routing calls, and providing administrative support to nurses and physicians.
  • Manage mail distribution, create work orders, submit HELPSTAR tickets, and report unit requirements to the appropriate department.
  • Maintain unit inventory and supply levels.
  • Perform daily patient rounding, update whiteboards, and ensure all safety measures are in place.
  • Respond to patient calls for service as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of patient arrivals and discharges on the unit.
  • Ensure concise, pertinent, and complete patient care documentation.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with PC and office software programs.
  • Sedentary role requiring prolonged sitting (67–100% of the workday) with minimal physical effort and lifting under 10 lbs.
  • Fine motor skills necessary for computer work, writing, and telephone use.
  • Clear visual and auditory ability required.
  • High cognitive and emotional demands due to extended concentration, frequent interruptions, independent decision-making, and information processing.
  • May require flexible hours, TB screening, or a valid driver’s license.
  • Consideration for accommodations for any physical requirements reported by a prospective employee and/or employee’s physician or delegate.
