About the Role

The Beekman Gallery Manager & Art Curator is responsible for day-to-day gallery operations, including art classes and managing the online store. This role also involves curating art shows and exhibits, preparing and cataloging artwork, and collaborating with other staff for pricing and distribution. The position requires art instruction, staff supervision, sales and marketing, business plan development, and project management. The individual will act as a liaison with community leaders and businesses to promote the program and represent Living Resources at community events.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee preparation, assembly, selection, and rotation of art pieces and displays for shows in all Living Resources galleries, offices, and external art shows.
  • Support students in matting, framing, stretching canvas, and completing artwork for exhibit deadlines.
  • Assist with the transport, take-down, tracking, and storage of artwork at the end of each art exhibit.
  • Create and maintain an inventory tracker for art used in upcoming shows, events, and gallery exhibits.
  • Act as a community and agency liaison, networking and participating in committees within the agency and the local community.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
  • Communicate with the Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) to ensure program quality and student safety.
  • Hire, train, and supervise gallery staff.
  • Assist with special events, art shows, and paint and sip events.
  • Instruct group, supplemental, without walls, and private community art classes.
  • Facilitate art sales and ensure finance has up-to-date records for timely payments to artists.
  • Collaborate with other agency programs (DCOP, pre-voc, job coaching) to support the gallery and projects.
  • Schedule staff and volunteers for gallery and agency projects.
  • Report all accidents, illnesses, and behavioral or emotional problems involving students with timely written documentation.
  • Follow all incident, emergency, and safety procedures and regulations.
  • Provide occasional support during events and shows outside of scheduled working hours.
  • Provide transportation for individuals, including assisting with mobility devices and driving in various weather conditions to ensure safety.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in management.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal).
  • Background in all aspects of art, including art instruction, printing, matting, and framing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to interact with community leaders and gallery directors to coordinate art shows and events.
  • Ability to include Living Resources in overall community involvement.
