About the Role
The Commercial Funding Officer is responsible for funding BES and CFG partner and direct loans, and CMHC-insured commercial transactions. The role involves analyzing corporate structures, reviewing legal documentation, and ensuring adherence to legislative guidelines and Bank policies, with extensive knowledge of AML guidelines required.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily legal and AML review under minimal supervision.
- Review Commitment Letters and CMHC Certificates of Insurance.
- Instruct Lawyers/Notaries or Partners for transactions.
- Follow up on outstanding documents and review legal documents for accuracy and enforceability.
- Analyze corporate structures of borrowing entities.
- Ensure file compliance from an enforcement and AML perspective.
- Identify AML issues and prepare memos to Compliance Department or SVP, Commercial Lending.
- Review property insurance, title insurance, and tax certificates, recommending waivers.
- Manage personal pipeline to meet prescribed deadlines.
- Collaborate with the Credit team to advise of any document deficiencies.
- Work closely with partners in partner transactions to ensure exceptional customer service.
- Manage pipeline on the Daily Funding Agenda by providing loan information and status.
- Review loan setup on the Bank’s systems for accuracy and advise of inconsistencies.
- Update the Bank’s systems as new documentation is received.
- Close the loan in the system upon approval and obtain authorized signatures on wires.
- Complete post-funding steps accurately and in a timely manner.
- Complete the final checklist confirming file compliance.
- Assist Funding Management with pipeline monitoring, reporting, and testing.
- Assist other funders during peak volumes and/or employee absences.
- Work with stakeholders like Accounting and Quality Assurance to ensure wires are approved and released.
- Prepare internal memos to create GICs for holdbacks.
- Advise Accounting of interest rate buy downs.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial mortgage funding experience within a regulated financial institution in Canada or law office.
- Mortgage lending and AML compliance experience is an asset.
- Post-secondary education (diploma/degree), preferably in Legal or AML Compliance.
- Complementary courses in Contract Law, Business Law and/or AML.
- Good working knowledge and understanding of PCMLTFA Act and Regulations.
- Ability and experience recognizing process improvement opportunities and providing recommendations to Management.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to take on new funding challenges.
- Strong analytical skills and a critical thinker.
- Established organizational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
- Exceptional time management skills.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to respond in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
- Bilingual is preferred.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check and credit check.
