About the Role
Join CommSec's Digital & Customer Crew as a Staff Software Engineer to build and modernize web applications and digital services for investors. This senior full stack role has a strong front-end focus, requiring deep React expertise to deliver intuitive, scalable, and high-performing customer experiences. You will drive hands-on development, contribute to architecture decisions, and mentor engineers, shaping modern web platforms and solving complex challenges at scale.
Responsibilities
- Build and modernize web applications and digital services.
- Deliver intuitive, scalable, and high-performing customer experiences.
- Work closely with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver robust end-to-end solutions.
- Drive hands-on development as a technical leader.
- Contribute to architecture decisions.
- Mentor engineers across the team.
- Shape modern web platforms.
- Improve engineering standards.
- Solve complex challenges at scale.
- Take ownership across the full software development lifecycle, from solution design and development through to deployment, production support, and continuous improvement.
- Apply engineering excellence through CI/CD, automated testing, observability, monitoring, and performance optimization to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions.
- Partner effectively with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions and outstanding customer outcomes.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in React development and UI architecture.
- Proven track record designing and delivering modern, scalable, and highly performant customer-facing web applications.
- Passion for creating exceptional user experiences.
- Strong capabilities across front-end architecture, component design, accessibility, responsive design, performance optimization, and maintainable engineering practices.
- Significant experience leading front-end technical decisions, defining reusable patterns, and establishing engineering standards across large-scale web applications.
- Experience with or strong interest in micro-frontend architectures.
- Understanding of how front-end applications interact with REST APIs and back-end services.
- Comfortable working with API contracts and generated clients.
- Strong full-stack web application development experience, with React as primary technical strength.
- Willingness to develop back-end capability to support full-cycle engineering ownership across the product lifecycle.
- Experience in several of the listed tech skills.
