About the Role
The University of Rochester is seeking an individual to oversee all phases of construction and renovation projects, ensuring facility performance meets user needs and maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders. This role involves setting priorities, managing schedules and budgets, and supervising staff, including hiring and performance management.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all phases of construction and renovation projects in assigned area.
- Sets priorities, schedules, and budgets for projects.
- Supervises staff, including hiring, disciplining, and developing performance.
- Ensures facility performance meets user needs and maintains communication with all parties.
- Maintains records for historical resources.
- Directs project managers, planners, and coordinators in all phases of project management.
- Oversees conceptual construction development, schematic design, design development, construction documents, estimating, project schedule, submittals, construction, commissioning, and close out.
- Works directly with leadership on short- and long-range capital planning.
- Directs construction supervisors, scheduler/planners, and other staff to meet project schedules and budgets.
- Reviews, approves, and audits all project requests and assigns appropriate staff for workload balancing.
- Performs routine and complex construction walk-throughs to ensure safety and quality standards.
- Reviews, approves, and oversees the finalization of construction project designs, drawings, and specifications.
- Oversees and directs work of staff employees, including hiring, performance management, setting priorities, coaching, mentoring, and staff professional development.
- Develops and tracks Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) using the work management system database and custom reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline and 3 years of construction experience required.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
- Experience with managerial skills acquired while working under a Contractor, Construction Manager or another expert in the construction industry is preferred.
Skills
- Advanced knowledge of construction procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of building and safety compliance.
- Sound financial estimation skills preferred.
