About the Role
Provide specialized nursing care for patients undergoing Mohs surgery and other dermatologic surgical procedures, working closely with the Mohs surgeon and medical team to ensure exceptional patient care before, during, and after surgery.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for Mohs surgery by reviewing medical history, medications, allergies, and other pertinent clinical information.
- Educate patients regarding surgical procedures, expectations, wound care, medication, and post-operative instructions.
- Obtain and record vital signs and other important patient information.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after the procedure, recognizing and reporting changes in patient condition.
- Prepare and organize surgical instruments, supplies, medication and equipment.
- Prepare procedure rooms and maintain sterile surgical technique.
- Administer local anesthesia to the surgical site prior to cases, ensuring accurate dosage and proper technique under surgeon supervision.
- Assist Mohs surgeon during surgical procedures and anticipate surgeon needs to promote efficient surgical flow and patient care.
- Administer medications and treatments as permitted by licensure and surgeon orders.
- Apply surgical dressings and assist with wound care and post-operative bandaging.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- Current New York State RN or LPN license required.
- 2+ years of experience in dermatology, surgical, or procedural nursing preferred.
- Strong sense of teamwork.
- Compassion and respect for patients and other staff members.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- HIPAA and bloodborne pathogen training and certification are offered on site.
- Not typically required to lift any materials greater than 20 pounds.
