About the Role
Figma is seeking an experienced researcher for its Rapid Research program. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to clarify problems, test ideas, and recommend product changes, often within one- to two-week sprints. The position offers the opportunity to rotate across product areas, tackle ambiguous problems, and contribute to shaping the future of design and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Scope and run focused research in quick sprints, using sound methods to answer questions that can change product decisions.
- Translate findings into specific, actionable recommendations for designers and product managers, assisting in their implementation.
- Present product recommendations to cross-functional teams and senior leadership, effectively communicating the narrative behind the data.
- Rotate across different product areas and teams, building credibility and relationships efficiently without long-term embedding.
- Contribute beyond research studies by using Figma products, participating in design reviews, and helping teams determine when sufficient information is gathered.
- Bring clarity to ambiguous problems, challenge existing assumptions, and adapt scope or approach based on new learnings.
- Experiment with tools, templates, and workflows to enhance research speed and precision.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in research within high-growth product organizations, UX/design agencies, or strategic consultancies focused on digital experiences.
- Proficiency in mixed methods research, encompassing qualitative approaches like interviews and quantitative approaches such as surveys and data analysis.
- Strong product judgment, with demonstrated examples of recommendations that shaped products, supported by excellent communication and storytelling skills.
- Proven ability to secure executive buy-in for product recommendations.
- Experience in rapidly onboarding to new projects and delivering clear recommendations within one- to two-week research sprints.
- Ability to transform ambiguous problems into clear questions and a practical path forward.
- A scrappy, flexible approach to adapting to changing priorities and tight timelines while maintaining sound research methodologies.
- Active use of AI tools to improve research speed, quality, or scale.
- Proficiency in designing and prototyping, ideally within the Figma suite of tools.
- Experience researching design tools, developer tools, creative software, or similar products.
- Experience in product design, product management, or engineering.
- Experience using product analytics in conjunction with qualitative research to inform recommendations.
- Candidates must keep cameras on during video interviews.
- Required to attend in-person onboarding if hired.
- Candidate acknowledges and agrees that personal data will be processed in accordance with Figma's Candidate Privacy Notice.
