About the Role

Join our team and help shape the future of urban agriculture. We are seeking a technically skilled and responsible individual to co-manage our farm's reliable and efficient operation. This role focuses on operating, monitoring, and optimizing our automated machinery, technical systems, and production processes, with minimal direct plant care.

Responsibilities

Coordinate, monitor, and continuously optimize largely automated production processes, from sowing and plant production to harvesting and packaging.
Perform operational tasks on production equipment and operate/monitor machinery during production.
Assist with production, personnel, and resource planning, ensuring agreed production volumes and delivery dates.
Monitor and optimize cultivation conditions, especially climate, irrigation, and nutrient supply.
Ensure reliable production operations and adherence to quality and production standards.
Monitor and optimize technical systems and automated production processes.
Perform maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery, and systems, and coordinate/supervise external maintenance and repair work.
Systematically diagnose and resolve technical issues to minimize downtime.
Monitor, adjust, and optimize PLC-controlled systems and production processes.
Ensure availability of critical spare and wear parts, and assist with their procurement and inventory management.
Record and analyze relevant production KPIs, deriving and implementing optimization measures.
Monitor and ensure hygiene, quality, food safety, and work safety standards.
Lead and coordinate employees during production operations.
Assume operational management in the absence of the operations manager.
Support organizational and administrative tasks, as well as customer communication.
Conduct or support plant protection measures, if qualified.

Requirements

Completed degree in Horticulture, Horticultural Phytotechnology, Automation Technology, Mechatronics, Process Engineering, Mechanical and Plant Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable technical/scientific field.
Alternatively, completed technical or horticultural apprenticeship with master or technician qualification (e.g., in Mechatronics, Automation Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical and Plant Engineering, or Horticulture).
Several years of relevant professional experience, ideally in a production environment.
Experience in plant, food, or comparable automated production is advantageous.
Good knowledge of machinery and plant technology with strong technical understanding.
Knowledge of electronic control and automation technology is advantageous.
Good knowledge of PLC controls and experience in diagnosing and optimizing PLC-controlled systems; programming skills are a plus.
Strong technical and scientific understanding with a passion for systematically solving complex problems.
Business acumen and entrepreneurial thinking.
Experience in leading and coordinating employees.
High level of initiative, responsibility, and reliability.
Structured, independent, and meticulous work style with attention to detail.
Team player with excellent communication skills.
Flexibility and willingness to work Saturdays and occasional Sundays (approx. once a month), with compensatory days off during the week.
Valid Class B driver's license.
Very good German language skills and good English language skills (at least B2 level).
Willingness to obtain a plant protection certificate is advantageous.

Die Frisch vom Dach GmbH, a subsidiary of ECF Farmsystems GmbH, operates a modern hydroponic farm on the roof of a REWE market in Berlin-Lankwitz, producing fresh lettuce directly for the region.
Our farm system enables resource-efficient and effective food production within the city.
Short transport routes are achieved through direct integration with REWE logistics, ensuring our lettuce reaches capital region markets fresh from the roof.
