About the Role
Publicis is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, flexible Data Privacy Lawyer to assist our business in the UK. This is a full-time position in London. You will be a member of our Global Data Privacy Office (GDPO) and report to a senior member of the GDPO. The role is broad and involves advising across our business on the various privacy risks, obligations and other issues related to privacy. We are looking for someone who has demonstrated excellent legal and privacy judgment alongside strategic thinking. We would also like someone who is diligent, proactive, practical and fun to work with.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the key point of contact for data privacy inquiries for UK-based advertising, creative, technology, data, and health agencies.
- Support internal teams by providing appropriate advice and guidance, collaborating effectively with diverse cross-functional teams.
- Advise commercial and employment legal teams on privacy matters and act as a subject matter expert on all privacy issues impacting the business and employees.
- Collaborate with the Global Data Privacy Operations team to adapt data governance materials, including inventory templates, vendor due diligence questionnaires, proprietary system questionnaires, and privacy impact assessment questionnaires.
- Assist the commercial legal team in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating data privacy provisions in complex commercial contracts.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant privacy legislation and regulations, disseminating this knowledge across the legal function and the wider business.
- Provide data protection and privacy advice related to data partnerships and vendor relationships, and assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating related data privacy provisions in contracts.
- Help develop data privacy training materials and conduct privacy training sessions.
Requirements
- Qualified UK solicitor or equivalent from a common law jurisdiction.
- Privacy certification (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPP/US from IAPP or similar) is desirable.
- 5+ years of legal experience, with a preference for privacy law, but commercial and privacy combined experience is also considered.
- In-house legal experience is desirable, particularly in AdTech or technology.
- Knowledge of digital advertising, including counseling and transactional support for digital media companies, publishers, social media marketing, or online platforms in the AdTech/data space (e.g., ad serving, programmatic, data management, measurement, and analytics).
- Direct experience applying UK and European privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially those relevant to media and advertising.
- Commercially minded with strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with internal management and external clients.
- Enthusiastic, energetic data protection and privacy subject matter expert with knowledge of recent regulatory changes and their impact on the media and advertising industry.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, provide advice under tight deadlines, and manage a varied workload independently.
- A good sense of humor.
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
