About the Role

The New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is seeking an Administrative Community Relations Specialist NM-I to function as a Program Coordinator. This role is crucial for overseeing the operations of shelter systems, re-housing shelter populations, and implementing programming initiatives to support New Yorkers experiencing homelessness.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare evaluation reports, policies, procedures, and workflows by researching information and using data from personal observation, review, and program plans.
  • Plan and implement direct community development programs by evaluating program needs and consulting with key personnel.
  • Make recommendations on policies, procedures, and programs by analyzing current systems and researching alternative methods.
  • Analyze operations of programs and policies by collecting information and reviewing statistics.
  • Direct intra-agency and inter-agency meetings and conferences related to projects.
  • Conduct and participate in unit and staff meetings to keep staff informed of agency and unit goals.
  • Respond to requests for information and documents from staff and other agencies.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be permanent in the Administrative Community Relations Specialist Civil Service title, permanent in a comparable title eligible for 6.1.9 title change, or immediately reachable on exam no. 6002.
  • A baccalaureate degree and four years of satisfactory full-time community liaison, community organization, or community relations experience, with at least two years in a broad administrative or policy-making capacity.
  • Alternatively, a four-year high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience as described above, with at least two years in a broad administrative or policy-making capacity.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above may be substituted, with specific guidelines for undergraduate and graduate education substitution for experience, but not for the two years of broad administrative or policy-making experience.
  • All candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or equivalent and two years of full-time experience in a broad administrative or policy-making capacity.
