About the Role
Group leaders support students (grades K-8) in homework assistance, academic instruction, and enrichment activities. This role involves working with small student groups in core subjects and assisting with physical education, visual arts, and performing arts activities. The program promotes academic success, personal development, and leadership skills through structured, club-style programming.
Responsibilities
- Provides general supervision of students and ensures participant safety.
- Keeps all activities, equipment, and facilities clean, sanitized, and in working order.
- Provides positive feedback on student progress and encourages academic excellence.
- Acts as a role model for student participants.
- Understands and utilizes DYCD core competencies in instruction and planning.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships.
- Maintains open communication with parents, staff, and supervisors.
- Reports incidents and concerns to program directors.
- Performs other assigned projects.
- Implements the After School curriculum to improve literacy, values, and physical fitness.
- Ensures the health, safety, and well-being of scholars through close supervision.
- Maintains accurate program documentation.
- Assists students with homework.
- Plans and creates innovative, age-appropriate activities and develops lesson plans.
- Provides support to Activity Specialists in implementing activities.
- Adheres to all DOH & DYCD Standards.
Requirements
- Must be able to apply for a NY State work permit (if under 18 years of age).
- Must be able to apply for a work permit.
