About the Role
The Southern Queens Parks Association seeks dynamic individuals to serve as Activity Specialists at the Cambria COMPASS Center afterschool program. This role involves creating age-appropriate activities, monitoring student progress, and providing academic support. The program serves elementary-aged youth, promoting academic success, personal development, and leadership skills through arts, sports, youth leadership, and experiential learning.
Responsibilities
- Provides general supervision of students during program operating times and ensures participant safety.
- Keeps all activities, equipment, and facilities clean, sanitized, safe, and in working order.
- Provides positive feedback on student progress and encourages continued academic excellence.
- Acts as a role model for student participants.
- Promotes independent growth by encouraging critical thinking, partnerships, and collaboration.
- Understands, articulates, and utilizes DYCD core competencies in instruction and planning.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with others.
- Maintains open communication with parents, staff, and supervisors.
- Reports incidents and concerns to the assistant site program director and site program director.
- Performs other projects as assigned.
- Implements the After School curriculum, helping scholars improve literacy, values, and physical fitness.
- Ensures the health, safety, and well-being of scholars through close supervision.
- Maintains accurate program documentation.
- Plans and creates innovative, age-appropriate activities and develops daily lesson plans.
Requirements
- Expertise in one or more disciplines or content-specific program activities or subjects such as dance, drama, STEAM, sports, or other enriching activities.
- Ability to develop age-appropriate activities and monitor student progress.
- Ability to provide academic support to meet student needs.
- Ability to develop lesson plans and implement activities in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
- Ability to maintain accurate program documentation.
