About the Role
The Assistant Director of Counseling & Psychological Services - Embedded Services provides organizational leadership in university mental health initiatives, overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of embedded clinical services and sites. This role works to establish strong partnerships with academic colleges and units, guides staff development, supervises a team of Counselor Therapists, and provides direct clinical services.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of embedded clinical services and sites throughout campus.
- Works to establish strong working partnerships with academic colleges and units.
- Guides the vision for ongoing staff development.
- Supervises a team of Counselor Therapist staff.
- Provides direct clinical services in a limited capacity.
- Fosters a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by being trustworthy, respecting all individuals, being flexible, supporting work/life integration and healthy boundaries, inviting new ideas, alternatives, and perspectives, speaking up and taking action if others are being excluded or treated inappropriately, and recognizing the contributions of others.
Requirements
- Masters degree in social work with “C” or “R” designation (LCSW or LCSW-R) or Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology (PhD or PsyD) and a minimum of 5 years of work-related experience.
- Licensed in New York State.
- Demonstrated ability to establish new clinical systems and partnerships.
- Experience supervising, managing, and leading a diverse clinical team as well as supervising the clinical work of others.
- 3 years of clinical supervision experience.
- Exceptional experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting access, belonging, and wellbeing.

- Ability to speak to a wide range of audiences and communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and life experiences.
- Strong commitment to collaborative work.
- Demonstrated success working with colleagues and other campus partners with varying work styles.

- Ability to lead, define, and assess the scope of clinical services that support the mission and vision of CAPS, Cornell Health, Student and Campus life, and Cornell University.
- Proficiency in mental health interventions with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in mental health administration.
- Proficiency in integrated health systems.
- Proficiency using electronic health record management systems.
- Proficiency in a language in addition to English desirable.
