About the Role

To assist the MPP with their political and legislative duties, including public relations, administration, advisory, and research tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Contacting constituents and the general public via telephone, writing, and in person.
  • Addressing inquiries and resolving constituent issues ("case work").
  • Liaising with senior government personnel, professionals, external organizations, local government, and the media.
  • Administering the Member's office at Queen's Park and managing correspondence.
  • Monitoring legislation and legislative proceedings.
  • Staying informed about NDP policy and Caucus positions on current issues.
  • Conducting specialized research.
  • Gathering information related to the Member's legislative responsibilities and community interests.
  • Representing the Member at appeal hearings (WSIB, EI, etc.) and meetings as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the NDP, Canadian Labour movement, and the Ontario Government and public affairs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Equity and Diversity frameworks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the riding and MPP's critic portfolio.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in speaking and writing French.
  • Ability to work with the public and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to perform general research.
